Persepolis is a 2007 film directed by Marjane Satrapi and based on the graphic novel of the same name. Satrapi’s story begins in the late 1970s at the time of the Islamic revolution in Iran, which replaced the monarchy by a theocratic Islamic government with the Ayatollah Khomeini, and led among other forms of repression, to the restriction of women’s rights and opportunities.
