About Us
Founded in 2022, First Gen is a student-led affinity group committed to empowering first-generation college students—those whose parents did not attend or complete a college education. We understand the unique challenges that come with navigating higher education without established support networks, and we're here to help. Since our founding, First Gen has worked tirelessly to uplift, advocate for, and build a strong community where first-generation students feel seen, supported, and equipped to succeed.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming space where first-generation students can connect, share experiences, learn from one another, and grow together. Through access to tailored resources, professional development opportunities, and mentorship, we aim to empower our members to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.

SUA Nexus Mentoring Program
The SUA Nexus Mentoring Program is a mentoring opportunity that supports the advancement and growth of Soka undergraduate students. Mentoring takes place between a student mentee and a professional staff mentor. This type of mentoring provides opportunity for students to receive coaching, advice, direction and goal setting; the type of overall support that fosters student success during the academic year. Students who apply to this program will be paired with a Soka professional staff member who will work with you to customize an experience to help you navigate college life and the realities that come with getting through the academic year.
