Health Insurance is mandatory for all SUA students. Soka’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for 23-24 is administered by Wellfleet Student, using the Cigna Open Access Plus (OAP) network. Our insurance broker, Academic Health Plan, verifies enrollment and waivers.
Coverage Dates (every year)
- Fall Semester: 8/1 - 1/31
- Spring Semester: 2/1 - 7/31
All students are automatically enrolled in the SUA Student Health Insurance Plan and may waive enrollment (https://soka.myahpcare.com/waiver) if they already have health insurance by the deadline. All international students are required to enroll in Soka’s SHIP. In order to waive enrollment, your alternative coverage must meet the following criteria:
1) Your present policy must provide local urgent and emergency medical coverage while attending Soka University of America for the duration of student's enrollment. This is especially important if your plan is a managed care plan or health maintenance organization (HMO). Some plans will not pay for services provided “out of network”. Please confirm this coverage with your current insurance provider.
2) Your present policy has unlimited medical benefit per injury or sickness.
3) If your present policy is an HMO, it includes a primary care physician (PCP) in southern Orange County, California.
